9 Things to Know as a new student:

1. Parking

There are 10 parking lots open to students. If all of these lots are full students are able to park across the street behind the former Country Grove restaurant. The parking garage can be accessed from South Road but also fills up as fast as the parking lots do during the beginning of the semester. Arriving before 9:00 a.m. is usually a good way to find a spot on campus.

 

2. Viking’s Cove Bookstore

Hudson Valley’s bookstore offers many different items to students. Students are able to buy the required books for their classes here as well as other supplies such as pens, pencils and notebooks. You can also find Hudson Valley clothing and souvenirs here in addition to books. The bookstore is located on the first floor of the Siek Campus Center.

3. Campus Ministry

The Interfaith Prayer Room is located on the second floor of the Siek Campus Center. Along with the Interfaith Prayer Room there are also religious clubs at Hudson Valley. The Jewish Student Union, the Muslim Student Association, Real Life and the Student Christian Association are some of Hudson Valley’s offered religious clubs and associations. Cylon George is the campus chaplain.

4. Center for Counseling and Transfer

This center offers help to students who are interested in transferring to different schools after attending Hudson Valley. The counselors in this center assist students with choosing schools and applying and can answer questions students might have. They also provide personal and psychological counseling to students for free. It is located in room 206 of the Siek Campus Center.

5. Learning Assistance Center (LAC)

The LAC is located in the lower level of the library. Education specialists, professional tutors and peer tutors are available to assist students in subjects they would like help with.

6. Writing and Research Center

Writing specialists and peer tutors work in the Writing and Research Center to help students with writing different types of papers. These can range from research papers to creative writing assignments. This center is located on the second floor of the library.

7. Food services

Chartwells provides food and beverages to the campus. The food court is located in the Siek Campus Center on the second floor. The Naked Pear Café is located on the first floor of the Campus Center. There is also the Library Café on the first floor of the library, the Williams Hall Cafeteria, and the Science Center Café on the first floor of the science center.

8. Conway Ice Rink

The ice skating rink will be open to the public until Mar. 9, 2014. Hudson Valley may skate for free while all other adults are $3. There is a skate rental charge of $3 per pair.

9. The Teaching Gallery

This gallery is located in the Administration Building in room 013. Its main purpose is to make art accessible to Hudson Valley students and the surrounding capital region. Art exhibitions rotate out through the gallery and are open for the campus community to view. The exhibits are usually free and stay open for a few weeks.
