Welcome to Spring 2019 at one of the best community colleges in the Northeast!

I am humbled and excited to share with you that I have been running around the state this year representing Hudson Valley Community College students on the state level!

I have met with the SUNY Chancellor, Provost and faculty, staff and students from around the system’s 64 campuses to discuss what we are doing right and to find solutions in areas that we may lack.

In doing so, my initial thoughts have been solidified! Hudson Valley Community College really is a standout in the SUNY System.

While attending the State of the University System Address, I witnessed first hand that Hudson Valley Community College has something unique to bring to the table (literally). There, each college touted booths exhibiting the best that their campuses had to offer.

All biases aside, Hudson Valley Community College stole the show with our state-of-the-art infrared drone and auto-refreshing topographic projection sandbox, which are used in many of our civil engineering technology classes!

On a completely different note, I want you all to try something new. Something radical… Stop caring! You might ask: “What does that even mean?!” It means, stop caring about little things that you likely won’t even remember in five years.

Rush hour, a poor grade or whatever it may be might get to you, but ask yourself this: Does it really matter in the big picture? Will my life be wildly different if I don’t let this small thing ruin my day?  How can I extract the positive out of the hard stuff?

Go unplug from social media for a day, or a week, or more and see what a change it will make in your life and attitude. Stop watching the news too, regardless of what side it comes from.

You can still stay informed without getting sucked into the chaos and fear vortex. When I did these couple of things my days turned ever more productive and optimistic.

I also want to encourage you to get involved on campus! Building a strong professional network is one of the most important things that you can carry into your future.

If you are interested in making an impact come join us for our weekly Student Senate meetings which are held in the Siek Campus Center’s Student Leadership Room.

If you have any questions or concerns, never hesitate to swing by my office which is located in the upstairs of the Siek Campus Center, Room 213.

You can also reach me by phone at (518)-629-4820 or via email at j-jarosz1@hvcc.edu.

I look forward to connecting with you all!

Your Student Senate President,

Jamison H. Jarosz
