Annual Fall Fest

Students turned out for an afternoon of games and food at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Thursday to celebrate the beginning of the Fall semester at the annual Fall Festival.
There was a barbeque lunch including chicken, baked beans, salad, and cookies. There were also games which included miniature golf putting greens where students could win prizes. The afternoon also revolved around the Students vs. Staff Softball game, which was started at noon with College President Andrew Matonak playing for the staff team.
All the games, food, and other entertainment were free of charge for Hudson Valley students.
“It gives you something to do between classes,” says Karlee Shields, public administration major, citing with approval the social environment.
The event drew largely positive feedback from the students. When asked if she had had a good time, Dejah Alvarez replied, “Loved it.”
“The games were fun,” she added, pointing to the pile of prizes she hadwon.
Criminal Justice major Matt Waldron agreed, saying, “I think it’s really fun.” He also said that the college had done a good job putting the event together.
“Free food brings me,” says Digital Media major Bryan Oliver. He said that he was impressed with Hudson Valley’s catering, saying with a laugh that “it’s a lot of students to feed.”
Student Olivia Deep smiled and said that her favorite among the provided food was “the cookies,” which brought about nods of agreement from her companions.
“Free food is always good,” said Rich Christine, individual studies major, but added that the event also drew him in because of its social atmosphere, saying, “It’s good to meet people.”
Hudson Valley student Dante Volkert said he also enjoyed the music and added that the purpose of the Fall Fest, besides the fun and games, was definitely the encouragement and sense of unity between students.
When asked about the success of the events, Alfredo Balarin, assistant director of student life of the Student Activities office, said that the turnout was good and students had fun, affirming that it all added up to an event that was “definitely a success.”
