The season is coming to an end and there will be a void left in every football fan’s heart. Before we hit the panic button, we should realize that the NFL has one last gift to us – a game that has the potential to be the best of the football year. Super Bowl XLIX is being played Sunday, Feb. 1, 6:30 p.m. at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. and will be broadcast on NBC. The game pits the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks against each other. The teams have traveled two very different roads to reach this point.
The New England Patriots have the luxury of playing in the AFC East and find themselves in the playoffs virtually every year. Tom Brady has played in nine AFC Championship games and appeared in six different Super Bowls. That means that in his career he and the Patriots have played in more championship games than not. They’ve been around for a while and it doesn’t look like they’re going away anytime soon.
The Seattle Seahawks are in their second Super Bowl in as many years and are trying to put together a mini dynasty. These “new kids on the block” came out of nowhere last year and look as if they’re here to stay. Behind their great defensive play in big spots and the efficiency of their offense, these Seahawks have a good shot at making history and becoming the ninth team to win a Super Bowl in back to back years. But they have their work cut out for them.
Both teams bring a top five offense and a top tier defense to the table. This game will be a battle of wits between the old school Patriots coached by Bill Belichick and the new age Seahawks led by Pete Carroll. Even though Belichick replaced Carroll in New England, he brings a new style of coaching to Seattle from USC.
Prediction
This game is going to look similar to the NFC Championship game. Green Bay had the game wrapped up and let it all unravel with two minutes left in the game. The Patriots will find themselves in the same spot, but won’t let the game get away from them. Look for Tom Brady to make throws late in the game to put it away as he cements his legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Patriots 27 Seahawks 20.
