The Men’s Basketball team lost their third straight and fourth of their first five games back from the holiday break, 94-80 to Fulton-Montgomery on Saturday.

The Vikings stayed with the Raiders as long as they could during Saturday’s game, but after a 44-41 halftime score the Vikings were outscored 50-39 in the second half.

“We’ve been a bit up and down a bit lately,” said Head Coach Mike Long.

“We’ve had trouble coming back from runs by other teams,” said Long. He referred to an 11-0 run that Mohawk Valley put on the Vikings at the end of the first half in their 75-59 loss on the road.

“It’s hard to gauge even when you scrimmage a team because coaches usually want to try other things during a scrimmage that they wouldn’t use necessarily in a game,” said Long.

“Hopefully we can grab a couple wins in the tough stretch we have coming up,” said Long about their three upcoming games at Delhi, at Herkimer, and home versus Broome.

“We’ve needed some work these last couple weeks,” Long said. The team has struggled, but has 8 of their last 12 games at home this year and that could be a major plus for the Vikings this season.

“We’d like to shoot the ball a little better,” said Long. The Vikings have shot just 38 percent from the field this season.

The Vikings have struggled in shooting the ball and Long said three days between games may help this week.

“Defensively, we still have to put together a mistake-free game,” said Long. He also said that the team hasn’t yet done so.

The Vikings before the break, losing their last two games and now have just one win in their first five back from it, to drop to a 9-7 record. The Vikings will have a chance to turn it around on Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Delhi.
