This past year, the Hudson Valley Community College athletic department had a dramatic rehiring binge in terms of their sports’ teams’ head coaches. Several coaches played out their first season under their new titles this fall, and even more will be dishing out their first performances this upcoming semester.

Devon Tomson got to play out his first season as the Vikings new men’s soccer Head Coach. Coach Tomson was pronounced the new Head Coach in May of 2019, with a previous 10 years of collegiate coaching experience out of his 15 years of being involved in the soccer industry.

The team ultimately concluded with 6 wins out of the 17 games (6-9-2).

Alongside Tomson, Tennis Head Coach Anne Clobridge also concluded her first season at Hudson Valley. Several of the season’s games were either postponed or cancelled due to collaboration difficulties and issues with the weather, leaving the team having lost three out of the four games.

“I am looking forward to coaching the Hudson Valley team and returning to the game of tennis as a mentor to young women who wish to achieve,” Clobridge had said previously to the season.

We also saw Football Head Coach Don Jones execute his first season at Hudson Valley with a 5-4 record.

Meanwhile, our Women’s Bowling program also has a new Head Coach as of May 2019. Coach Catherine “Catie” Bell will be having her first season in her new position this upcoming spring after having been promoted from assistant coach to head coach.

She replaced Coach Joe Prest, who retired after 31 years as head coach to be assistant coach, making Spring 2020 her third season at Hudson Valley.

Bowling season begins December 27, where women’s bowling will be playing at the Lehigh Valley Classic. According to Hudson Valley’s athletic website, there are five players on the roster.

Joshua Parrow will be acting as the Vikings baseball team’s new head coach, having been hired this past August.

Parrow was a former local, having graduated from Catholic Central High School. After a hiatus from Troy, during which Coach Parrow graduated from University of Bridgeport and continued to be an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Parrow returns to join Hudson Valley’s team.

The Vikings lacrosse team begins their official season in March, with new head coach Richard Aberle.

The softball team will also be returning to play. During Spring 2019 the softball team was temporarily discontinued due to a lack of players.

Earlier this semester, they had played  the Herkimer Generals at a scrimmage. The team remains optimistic as to their chemistry and are looking forward to returning to the field.
