Do you know all of the fun things going on right in Hudson Valley Community College’s backyard?

Many Hudson Valley students commute long distances and are unfamiliar with all of the fun things to do in the nearby area. It took me up until recently to fully explore the Troy area and this is my senior year at Hudson Valley. I don’t live far from Troy but when I first started school I was still unfamiliar with the area. I was surprised to find all of the really interesting spots to hang out with friends, get quick bites and even study for classes.

If you find yourself feeling bored, the best thing to do with friends is to head to Uncle Sam’s bowling alley in downtown Troy. The prices are affordable enough that college students of any budget can play at least one game. I’ve been there plenty of times to relax with friends after my classes.

Conveniently, right around the corner from the bowling alley are tons of great places to get food. If you’re looking for casual bites, Psychedelicatessen is a great place to grab a cup of coffee and quick eats. It serves a delightful array of deli-style sandwiches, bagels & wraps in light-hearted setting full of colorful artwork.

On the subject of coffee; I feel like it is safe to say no college student is foreign to exhaustion. Luckily, Troy has many cafes to keep you going throughout the semester.

Need a place to study? Spill n’ the Beans is a café in the same proximity and offers great food and greater coffee. This place is perfect for students. It has free Wi-Fi, couches and tables big enough for group work. Best of all, the store has a student discount for students who attend colleges in Troy.

If you are looking for an adventure, the city has great sights for nature walks and photography. Prospect Park, Riverfront Park and even Oakwood Cemetery (if you are brave enough) are great places to take a walk, read a book, take photos or just relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Are you interested in trying something new? Troy also has has a lot of restaurants that offer food from a wide array of cultures. There are a lot of great Indian restaurants and lovely a Moroccan restaurant all in the downtown area.

One of the most unique and entertaining things to do is the Troy Farmers Market. The farmers market is open every Saturday and has many vendors. You can easily find anything to buy that sparks your interest. Many locals flock to the farmers market every Saturday in order to sell and buy a variety of different things. Popular travel sites like TripAdvisor has the Troy Farmers Market listed as the number one attraction for entertainment in the city.

Take time to check out troy and enjoy all of the amazing places to get food, study with friends, have downtime and more. It is all a quick bus ride or car ride from our college campus!
