Don’t Bow, Bow, Bow to “DuFlocka Rant 2”

Brick Squad, be ready to “flex” those ear muscles and “bow, bow, bow, bow, bow, bow” to the latest creation to the Brick Squad Monopoly, the mix tape known as “DuFlocka Rant 2.”

The mix tape is a sequel to his DuFlocka Rant V1, which was released last May and had 1,233,320 hits online. Soon after, the up and coming rapper looked to continue his success with his second album, “Triple F Life,” which came out in June. The album featured hit singles “I Don’t Really Care” and “Get Low.”

Needless to say, it has been a successful year for Jauquin Malphurs, aka Waka Flocka Flame.

Let’s be honest, nobody listens to Waka Flocka’s music for the lyrics. Our generation listen’s to music or an artist because of what they like, not necessarily how good they are as a musician.

Waka Flocka does a lot of things that people like to do, and for this reason he fits into the lives of many young people.

The mix tape was highly anticipated, mainly due to the hype that Waka Flocka was giving it himself through social media. On Twitter, @WakaFlockaBSM tweeted a countdown to the release of the mix tape for weeks before the release date.

He also leaked a single the day before to give his “squad” a little taste of what they were waiting for.

On DatPiff.com, the mix tape contains 17 tracks, but two of them are an intro and an outro, thus not necessarily considered full tracks.

The mix tape features tracks with Lil Wayne, Ace Hood, French Montana, and Gucci Mane.

Vocabulary, rhythm and flow are not reasons people listen to Waka Flocka as he is not a great lyricist. Energy is what makes up for all of that. He is passionate about what he does and has the voice to do it.

He is fiery and has a great vibe to him, but my problem with him and this mix tape is that he doesn’t say anything important and it is highly repetitive.

He uses the same curse words, which most rappers do, and he talks about smoking weed, stacking paper and comes off as a poser. I am not accusing him of being one, but if he is so gangster, I feel as if he should tell stories of struggle with his music instead of hiding behind lyrics that show insecurity.

The best track on the mix tape is “Fast Forward,” because he tries to change his style up a little bit and I liked what he did with it. He spit a little faster than normal and still with the same energy.

Other than that one track, the highly anticipated sequel disappointed. It did not live up to recent releases such as Big Sean’s “Cruel Summer,” Ghost Face Killa’s “Wu Block,” or even going back a couple years to Lil Wayne’s “Sorry For the Wait.”

I would much rather listen to Jay-Z, Kanye West, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, or A$AP Rocky than listen to DuFlocka Rant 2.

However, contrary to my opinions, the mix tape has already been downloaded over 80,000 times on DatPiff.com.
