President Andrew Matonak is retiring after 11 years in his position.

At the end of August 2018, Hudson Valley will have a new president in charge.

President Matonak, better known as Drew, has been president since April of 2005. Before taking the job as president, he was the president of another community college in Iowa.

“Always my favorite part of being president is my interaction with the students. That’s the reason why I got into community college education to begin with,” Matonak said.

Matonak wanted to make an impact on the lives of the students, so talking to students and learning about them is something he enjoys doing.

“Aside from the fact that I’m old, it was time. It’s time for me to think in terms of transitioning into the next phase of my life, I have some things that I’d like to be able to do, and so the timing seems to be right to be able to do that,” he said.

After he retires, Matonak doesn’t think he’ll be able to sit around and enjoy his retirement.

“I may do some consulting, I might be doing some part time work, may be doing some traveling, but don’t have any firm plans at this point. It’s two years away, so I have a little bit of time.”
