Running back Desi Floyd has become the first Viking to surpass 250 rushing yards in a single game since Vikings Hall of Famer Emmanuel Marc accomplished the feat three times during his record-breaking season in 2003.

Desi is an accounting major here at Hudson Valley Community College and is originally from Rochester, NY.

“It is an amazing feeling but it wouldn’t be possible without my offensive line or my team– praise to them and praise to me for doing the best that I could that game,” Floyd said. “I’m looked down upon, I’m not respected enough as far as my talent goes. So every time I step on the field I feel like I have to prove something, it’s my grind, I do it for my family, I do it for my mom, my sisters and my little brother.”

Floyd was a First Team All State and Section Champion MVP, alongside racking up 1300 rushing yards.

His current talent is accompanied by 16 touchdowns in high school, so it’s no surprise that he is able to put these numbers up during his continued education.

Floyd is looking to keep doing so with Division 1 teams such as University of Albany and University of Maine.

The football team at Hudson Valley started the season with multiple losses, but Floyd said it has changed for the better.

“We made a huge turn around from where we started [and] after our worst loss everything has been coming together,”he said. “We have a good chance on the rest of the season if we keep going at the same pace that we are right now,” Floyd continued. “I like the Hudson Valley program, it’s a good fit for me [and] the coaches don’t let you beat yourself up, they stay on your back, make sure your grades are good and make sure you’re the best you can be.”

Floyd’s carries started to pick up and his numbers really started to show as he’s the first to put up these types of numbers since 2003.

“I’m very confident in our team’s skills, if the ball is in my hand and the linemen are blocking to the best of their ability, then we can do some very dangerous things, but if one of us doesn’t do our jobs correctly, then we know that we’re in for a very long day,” he said.

The HVCC football team is standing at 3-3 and are only looking to improve for the rest of the season. Floyd is now going to be a target for the football team’s opponents. The rest of the season should be very entertaining to watch, as we see how he reacts to his challenges.
