Have you ever noticed that it is more common to see someone using a cellphone than not using one?

Students talk about how they take a break from their phone and embrace nature.

Jerome Hall, an individual studies major, says that a good way to enjoy the outdoors is to take hikes.

“I’m planning on going with friends to ride ATV’s in the Adirondacks in the next two weeks,” he said.

Hall believes that the outdoors are great ways to bond with friends. He thinks that planning group hikes is a great way for everyone to enjoy nature all while having a great time.

He doesn’t have to worry about responding to emails or texts when he is in the mountains. Cell service is scarce where Hall enjoys hiking.

“Biking with [your] family is a great way to enjoy the outdoors,” business administration major Megan Utama said.

Taking your bike out for a spin is something you can do in almost every season Utama says. She thinks that there is still time for students to bike before winter sets in.

“When it’s warmer out, going for swimming is a fun way to unwind while enjoying nature. When it’s not warm enough for swimming, taking a simple walk is great too,” Collin Rodrigue, a computer science major, said.

According to Rodrigue, visiting a farm is another great way to enjoy outdoors. He thinks it is also interesting to see where a lot of the food on our tables comes from.

Whether it’s biking, hiking, swimming or just taking a simple walk, there are plenty of ways for students to enjoy the outdoors without the distraction of technology.

Hudson Valley Community College offers nature trails in the back of the Hudson Hall building. It offers nice woodland views and a creek with a bridge and fields. These trails are a great way to unplug for stressed students.

No matter if you enjoy hiking, a day at the lake or even the trails on our very own campus,  there are many ways to unplug and enjoy the nature around us.
