The Capital Region is the home of Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC), Albany’s largest running association with over 2,000 members.

Started in 1971, the club now  marks 30 plus years of club organized race and marathon running. Every year HMRRC holds marathons and events throughout the Capital Region and has held well known running challenges such as the annual 15k Stockade-athon, Mohawk Hudson River Marathon and more.

The club is far from a competitive team recruiting top runners. HMRRC is merely an organized group of running enthusiasts whose main goal is to promote health, fun and education through running.

This group compassion towards healthy living and all year exercise is only one of the reasons why those who love running should immerse themselves with this group of people with common interests.

“Every person running across the finish line is highly valued,” said HMRRC’s club president, Maureen Cox.

“The last runner to cross the finish line is [cheered on just as vigorously] as the first place runner,” said Cox.

New or experienced runners alike are all welcome. HMRRC not only promotes healthy living emphasizes the fun of running along side others.

From business meetings to banquets, all members have access to club event planning. Club member benefits include annual awards ceremonial banquets  that are held in February, 13 free trial runs throughout annual races and the summer series as opposed to high walk-in entry fees, discounts on merchandise in locally owned businesses and much more.

HMRRC has no boundaries when it comes to charities and scholarships.

HMRRC has teamed up with CDPHP’s Workforce Team Challenge Charity of Choice since they began 30 years ago to help find a charity in the Capital Region. These charity events attract more than 9,000 people for each marathon and all runners contributions go directly towards the benefit.

The club also awards three male and three female student athletes either in Section II high schools or community college $3,000 in scholarship money if they’ve ever competed in track or cross-country and plan to continue competing throughout their college years. The application deadline is Apr. 1 of this year.

You can join HMRRC at their next event on Saturday, Feb. 1 for their Beer and Chili 5k and 10k or visit their website at http://www.hmrrc.com for more membership details.
