The Hudson Valley Hockey team’s dynamic duo comes together again this year and the pair is already making a statement early in the season.

Sophomores James Murphy and William Huber lead the Viking’s in scoring and assists.

Murphy leads the team in points with 15 this season. He has seven goals and eight assists.

Huber trails right behind Murphy with 13 points. Huber has four assists and nine goals.

The duo has combined for 28 points through six games and team has posted a 3-2-1 record.

“It’s going pretty good. We came out to a pretty good start,” said Huber.

The Vikings are short on players this year which leads to more playing time for everyone on the team, especially for Murphy and Huber.

“Last year we had a lot of numbers to work with.  This year we are short, but we’re all on the same page from last year,” said Murphy.

Although Murphy leads the team in points, he is still very humble and makes sure to put the team first.

After receiving many accolades last season such as Region III player of the week, All-Rookie team and both All-Region and All-American honors last season, Murphy won Region III player of the week for a second time just a couple weeks ago.

“It feels good to get recognized, but that’s not my main concern. My main concern is getting W’s,” said Murphy.

With all of the pair’s success, Huber realizes that it’s early in the season and that they can get better.

“I could be doing better but it’s just the start of the season, so there’s more to look forward to,” said Huber.

Murphy and Huber are coming into their second season for the Vikings. They lead the team in points last season and continue their success this season.

“We just like to play our game. We don’t think too much about it and just try to win a hockey game,” said Murphy.

In 2012, Murphy finished third all time for goals in a season with 32. That also led the nation and he and Huber expect more of the same this season.

“We did pretty good last year, so I think we will do just as good this year,” said Huber.

Hudson Valley fell short last year in their run for their first national championship since 2001.

The Vikings look to continue their success in their next home game on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. against Erie.
