High school is known for allowing students to spend their free time after school participating in activities but college is even better as it offers a wider range of options multiple times a day.

With campus reopening, clubs have an option to meet in rooms, but some are unable due to COVID restrictions. These clubs include Animal Outreach Club, Cheerleading Club, Pep Squad Club and Film Club. Some can’t happen like martial arts since students can’t be too close to each other, while others may not have an adviser to lead them yet.

The Student Senate is a great leadership association that supports the financial income of changes at HVCC, such as the free textbooks for students taking summer classes in 2021. This team of staff and students consist of both freshman and senior senators, as well as the mainboard.

Astrid Fuentes-Dimes leads this board as the President, Talia Edwards is proudly representing us as Treasurer and lastly myself as Secretary. We are in the process of finding someone who would like the position of vice president.

If you would like to join or get a glimpse of the group in action, meetings are at 2 pm on Zoom. For more information please email me at I-smarro@hvcc.com.

HVCC has both a theatre club and classes offered for credit. The club doesn’t have an official weekly meeting schedule yet but it will be in person. Each week will contain improv games and even preparation for a winter show. If you want even more involvement in acting but can’t fit any classes, look no further, as there’s a play put on each semester that anyone can audition for. This Fall, Rosanne (Director) will be producing the period piece titled Little Women. Auditions are held Wednesday the

15th and Thursday the 16th, both from 5 to 8 pm.

For more information about either option, call club advisor Julie Demers at (518) 629-7759.

HVCC has a club called “Not A Bit Of Difference,” which allows students with disabilities to come together and make a positive change in the world around them. The group works on advocacy projects, fundraisers and conference meetings. To receive more info please call Ann Peterson at (518) 629-7535.

There are many other clubs where anyone can join. College allows students to make friends in a lot of different places and times, that’s the blessing of joining a club. Not just that you’re learning and having fun but you’re making new connections as well.

If you would like to create your own club, a minimum of 10 students must want to be involved, and a physical staff member has to be open to the advisor role.

With all the information needed to help you find the club that’s right for you, call the Student Activity section at (518) 629-7348.Learn more about clubs and organizations here: https://www.hvcc.edu/campuslife/clubs/index.html
