Jasmine Adams, a Hudson Valley Community College freshman and member-voted secretary of Phi Theta Kappa, has received $1,000 through the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship.

Adams is a mother of two children and is currently a part of the nursing program at Hudson Valley Community College. She has been described by Phi Theta Kappa’s advisor, Lamyaa Hassib, as “a very bright student, a very nice person and very easy to get along with.”

The highly competitive scholarship Jasmine received is exclusively rewarded to only two hundred members of Phi Theta Kappa, which is an international honors society created for two-year college students.

The award winners are selected from over nine hundred candidates based on their applications. This scholarship is fitting for Adams as Hassib sees her as “one of the hardest working students [she has] ever met.”

Upon finding out that Adams had won the scholarship, Hassib immediately texted her and got in contact over the phone. Both were shocked and in disbelief that Adams had won the scholarship because of the high number of people that applied for it.

However, despite Hassib addressing the initial shock, she was confident about Adams’ reward. “Knowing her and knowing how hard she had worked, I wasn’t surprised,” she said. This scholarship has made a significant impact on Adams’ life as it’s helping her continue her education and achieve her nurse aspirations.

With the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship awarded for Jasmine Adams’ hard work, there is no doubt that she will continue her solid academics and achieve more great things in her future.
