October 14th is just one day during a month of pride for Hispanic and Latinx Heritage and history. Why not come celebrate with the Student Senate? The event will be held from 12-2 pm at the Siek Campus Center (first level.)

Hispanic and Latinx Heritage month is an example of people coming together to recognize and honor the rich culture of Hispanic and Latinx people.

“The student senate felt they wanted to recognize the diverse student body that we have. And celebrate the different cultures. nationalities and history of the HVCC community,” said Alfredo Balarin, head of student activities.

On October 14th, the Student Senate will be putting on an event filled with a variety of dishes to show the diverse culture of Latinx people.

“Food is what brings Latinos together and there are so many unique dishes that belong to each Latinx country. During this Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, the student senate would like to share this part of Latinx culture with our students and educate them on a few traditional dishes,” President Astrid Fuentes-Dimas said in an interview.

The event will adhere to all COVID regulations, so each dish will come with to-go containers that will keep students taking their masks off while indoors.

“The food will be given as samples, and recipe pamphlets and allergy labels will be provided,” noted Astrid.

Alfredo stated that they have options from multiple Hispanic and Latin countries, all with their original plates. “We are working with Mazzone Hospitality to provide the different dishes and recipes. Right now we have recreated dishes from El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia and other nations to ensure a good diverse amount of options from Latin America.”

The goal of this event is not just to educate students on what Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month is, but to showcase a wide range of cultures and to bring Hudson Valley Students together.
