After a rocky start to their season, the Vikings Lacrosse team beat Mohawk Valley 14-7 last Wednesday, Apr. 17, to improve their record to 4-4.

Head Coach Joe Hayes said, “The team played good but could have played a lot better.”

With Mohawk having a losing record this season, the team had struggles with mental preparation. “It was a tough game to get motivated for,” Hayes said.

Senior goaltender Andrew Reilly recorded his fourth win in net with 12 saves.

Reilly said, “We’ve had our ups and downs this season but we’ve stayed together as a team and I’m really proud of how they’ve played in front of me.”

The men in front of Reilly credit him for his performance as well.

Forward George Lopano said, “Andy Reilly was a stone wall in the net, as usual, and everyone just had fun out there.”

After last season’s struggles, Lopano has found a new groove.

“I’m playing much better this season,” Lopano said.

Although Coach Hayes said the team had a hard time getting motivated, Lopano had his own motivation because of being a senior.

“Being my last home game at the Valley, I wanted to make it my best,” said Lopano.

For the benefit of the team, Lopano adjusted his game late in the season and has found success.

“I recently changed the way I tape my stick and it has helped me in the faceoff circle, one of the strong points of my game,” Lopano said.

Midfielder Paul Bennett brought a big physical game for the Vikings with four big hits, while also adding a goal and two assists.

Bennett said, “We had good ball movement and the team played exceptionally well today.
