Student Activities held their annual Valentine’s Banquet on Friday, Feb.7 in the Siek Campus Center.

Jesse Tilley, Student Senate president, welcomed all the guests and held a moment of silence for Public Safety Officer David Plunkett, who recently passed away.

Tilley noted that a lot of effort goes into putting on these events, including planning the meals, decorating and getting the word out.

“I think it’s a great time though. It’s definitely worthwhile. We always have a great turn out too,” said Tilley.

During dinner, students and staff also celebrated the birthday of custodian Roberta Gentner, who has worked at the college for 38 years.

After a meal served by Chartwells, students hit the dance floor and the DJs from “Cool Cat Entertainment” provided the music. One of the DJs, Dan Hernandez, is a student at Hudson Valley.

“I loved doing an event at my school,” said Hernandez. “It’s a great job. I just have to get out there and dance and encourage people to have a good time.”

Hernandez wasn’t the only one on the dance floor, though. Attendees spent the evening dancing. Some came with their friends and others with their significant other.

“The food was good and dancing afterwards was a lot of fun. I can’t believe more kids don’t come out to this,” said Joseph Fortson, quarterback of the football team.

“Student Activities does a hell of a job,”said student Melanie Hecker.
