The Vikings were inches from tying their game on Wed., November 20, as a buzzer beater from point guard Jose Reyes banged off the rim to hold the final score to 72-69.

“It looked good to me when I let it go.” Reyes said. “It just rimmed out.”

“He’s definitely capable of making that shot and it looked like it had a chance,” said Head Coach Mike Long.

Reyes had six points on two three point shots, five assists and two steals. He orchestrated the offense for the majority of the game from the point guard position.

The Vikings trailed for most of the game. After Adirondack took the lead midway through the first half, they never relinquished it.

The Vikings trailed at halftime 31-28. They struggled to get 60 percent of their free throws to fall but they kept the game in reach and made a storming comeback late in the second half. Down by as much as 13 at one point they brought it within 2 at 71-69.

“We’re just missing something. We gotta figure it out,” said Reyes after fouling and having one of two free throws go for Adirondack. The Vikings failed to score on their buzzer beater attempt.

“There was a lack of effort in the first half and we couldn’t make up for it,” said Long. “We played great in the second half, but it wasn’t enough.”

“Our ultimate goal is [to go to] nationals,” said Vikings’ guard Simon Ohanian. “The team including myself has some work to do.”

Ohanian had nine points, two steals and lead the team with nine rebounds.

“He’s adjusted well to our system and has improved every day,” said Long.

“We need to focus on improving and watch film to see where our flaws are,” said Reyes.

“We improved our shooting at the line and from the field in the second half,” said coach Long “We just didn’t score like we did in the first two games.”

The Vikings scored 82 in their first game of the season and 99 in their second, winning both of those games. In their two games since, they’ve scored 70 and 69 and lost both games.

Hudson Valley got scoring contributions from Elijah Newsome and Nate Monson who both had ten points and nine points from Casey Hall, Matt Walker and Simon Ohanian.

The Vikings drop to a 2-2 record for the season and their next game is in Schenectady on Sunday at 3 p.m.
