Albany-based cross-genre band Mirk came to Hudson Valley last Friday, putting on a concert in the middle of the Siek Campus Center as part of the college’s first ever Guitarfest.

Mirk, who went on their first national tour in 2012 and collaborated with Jay Z in 2009, came to campus at noon and performed on Siek’s first floor until 1:45 p.m. In front of varying numbers of students, the band covered songs new and old, from singles off their latest album “Run” to covers such as a rendition of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

“I enjoyed [playing at HVCC]. I’d like to come back and do another [concert],” said lead vocalist Joshua Mirsky.

“Whether there’s two people or two thousand people, it’s going to be a great performance,” said Mirsky.

Mirk has performed in Troy before, including a recent concert at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, but Friday was their first time playing on Hudson Valley’s campus, which was arranged due to connections one of the band had with the college.

“[Mirk keyboardist James Rock] goes here,” said Mirsky. “One of his professors asked us to [come perform for Guitarfest].”

Students upstairs in the campus center enjoyed the music, but many criticized the volume. “It’s really good, I like it, it’s just too loud,” said freshman Cydney Rogers.

While the band currently has no date set to return to Hudson Valley, their next show will be on Apr. 12 at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Troy.
