Orientation Introduces Students to Clubs and Activities

New Student Orientation on Saturday, Aug. 17 provided students the opportunity to learn about the clubs and activities Hudson Valley has available.
In the Siek Campus Center, clubs set up booths to provide information to students. The groups handed out pamphlets and gave overviews about their purposes.
Professional clubs offered by Hudson Valley include the Entrepreneurs Club and the Criminal Justice, Forensic Science and Public Administration Club.
The Entrepreneurs Club is for any student interested in the business field.  For information regarding this club contact Jodi Mather at 518-629-7659 or James Williams at 518-629-7148.
The Criminal Justice, Forensic Science and Public Administration Club will be holding their first meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 2:30 p.m. in BTC 1. For more information on this club, contact Shawna-Kay Addison at s.addison@hvcc.edu.
Circle K and Habitat for Humanity are two clubs that have merged together for students interested in volunteer work.
Circle K is affiliated with Kiwanis and incorporates volunteer work into meetings.
“[We try to] get out there and volunteer as much as possible,” said Jeffrey Sammons, president of Habitat for Humanity.

For students interested in learning about the Christian faith, the Student Christian Association holds meetings every Monday at 2 p.m. in Brahan 107. For more information Jeff Schoonmaker can be contacted in Science Center 133.
The Jewish Student Union is available for those seeking to learn about the Jewish faith. Students who are interested may contact Crystal Heshmat in room 244 of the BTC or via email at c.heshmat@hvcc.edu.
The Muslim Student Association is available to students seeking to learn about the Islamic faith. Interested students may contact David Van Aken in room 103 of the Marvin Library via email at d.vanaken@hvcc.edu.
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers is a club open to all students and is always looking for new members. The members decide what to design and make using a 3D printer. Their meetings run every other week at 2 p.m. in Amstuz 102.
The Black and Latino Student Union is a club on campus that holds different activities throughout the year. The club does volunteer work, such as working with young teenagers.

Student Senate is involved in funding clubs along with various events on campus. They also invite speakers and entertainers to the campus and organize trips for students.
Student Senate meetings are held every Monday at 2 p.m. for those interested in joining. For more information visit Student Activities in the Siek Campus Center.
Hudson Valley students can also qualify to be a part of Phi Theta Kappa, Hudson Valley’s honor society.  Students must obtain a GPA of 3.7 in order to be invited to join. A 3.5 GPA must be maintained once a student is inducted. Phi Theta Kappa offers scholarship and community opportunities for its members.
