Raeshelle Frasier averaged 16.5 rebounds per game for the women’s basketball team this past season, a better average than any collegiate basketball player, man or woman, at any level, and that led to her 296 rebounds on the season, which is a Hudson Valley single season record.

Frasier also finished the season with several honors. Earlier in the season she earned Region III player of the week honors when she averaged 23 points and 19.5 rebounds in two games.

By the end of the season, Frasier earned First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference recognition.

“It feels pretty good. I didn’t think that I still had any gas left in me being older, but it feels very good. I was surprised I made first team All-Region, All-Conference, being that we didn’t have a winning season,” said Frasier.

The Vikings had a tough season finishing with a record of 9-15. Even with the struggling season, Frasier really stood out as one of the top athletes in the nation.

“The season was pretty good. We could have played a lot better. We lost a lot of games that were right in our hands,” said Frasier.

Frasier lead the team and helped them get many wins and gave them several chances on the boards.

“Anything I do in life, I try to lead by example. I just try to help my team and lead them by doing the little things correct,” said Frasier.

Each game is a different game for Frasier, as she consistently does things to improve her game and help the team.

“I try to think about what I did and didn’t do each last game. I try to focus on what I didn’t do each game and improve on that the next game,” Frasier said.

Frasier is coming to Hudson Valley after being a student at Schenectady County Community College (SCCC).

“Hudson Valley was a good fit. The facility is really nice and the staff is really great. I want to do physical education, which they have here,” Frasier said.

Frasier said she has gotten a lot stronger since she was at SCCC and that helped her be able to still compete at a high level.

“When I went to SCCC, I had to work more individually and here at HVCC, it is more of a family. I feel like I didn’t have as much help…as I do here. I improved a lot so the competition is different in that aspect because I’m older and a little more experienced,” said Frasier.

Frasier will be looking to transfer to another school and continue her basketball career, but has not made a choice yet.

“There are a lot of four year programs that are interested in me, but I’m having a tough time making a decision,” said Frasier. “As long as the school is good, and they have great education. I want to be a part of a winning team.”
