Megan Rzeszuto has earned All-American recognition, after finishing fourth in the All-events standings at the NJCAA National Bowling Tournament in Buffalo.

“I was really excited” Rzeszuto, Criminal Justice senior, said. “I had bowled good the first day, but the second day I felt lower than I expected. It got in my head and thought I wouldn’t finish good.”

Throughout the two days, Rzeszuto’s average was 177.4, which gave her a total of 2, 219.

“Knowing that this was the last big tournament, you have to give it all or nothing,” Rzeszuto said. “I really went in there headstrong, and gave it my all.”

At the beginning of the year, Rzeszuto was one of the six women to compete in collegiate bowling for the first time and clicked right away.

“Within the first few practices we became really close,” Rzeszuto said.

Among the six bowlers, there was a familiar face from high school.

“I knew Jen [Lynch] from high school and I knew right off the bat that we could be good,” Rzeszuto said.

All season long, Rzeszuto improved her game little by little each day.

“I had a lot of help from coach [Joe Prest]” Rzeszuto said. “We tried a few different methods. I learned how to play different positions on the lane.”

Prest helped Rzeszuto both physically and mentally.

“A big part of the game is a mental game,” Rzeszuto said. “To just be mentally stable that if you stress yourself out over a frame…you’re not going to do good the rest of the game. Just throw it behind you and just have fun.”

In the six events bowled this year, Rzeszuto averaged 177.7.

Rzeszuto is ready for next season.

“I look forward to bowl with the returning bowlers, Chelsea [Smith], Jen, Liz [Pratt],” Rzeszuto said. “Just to keep our family going, stay in touch with all the girls, to improve my game even more, make new goals and achieve them, and do the best I can.”

Rzeszuto expects improvement not only for herself, but for the other women, going into next season.

“Next year I expect to be better,” Rzeszuto said. “I have higher expectations for the other girls as well. I know them, I know how they bowl, and I expect we will go far and win wherever we go.”
