Scholarship Luncheon

The Women’s Enterprise Scholarship Luncheon was held on Mar. 8.

This year’s scholarship winners were faculty and staff members Nicole L. Arduini-VanHoose, Erica L. Cole, Elizabeth A. Fahrenkopf, Rebecca M. Maroncelli, Hannah Ohemaa-Takyi, Catherine M. Perry, Lori Q. Purcell, and Carolyn A. Sawicki.

The Women’s Enterprise (WE) is an organization committed to maintaining community spirit through social, philanthropic and educational endeavors. In the past 14 years, the Women’s enterprise has given out more than $16,000 in scholarships.

The scholarships are open to any member of the HVCC Educational Opportunity Center community, and individuals must be nominated for these scholarships.

Although prior recipients may be nominated, preference is given to first time nominees. “WE” looks for “employees who are working hard to improve their academic credentials and have the potential to shine.”

President Andrew Matonak presented these scholarships, alongside Professor Joan Lawson.

In addition the scholarship ceremony and a luncheon catered by Chartwells, there was entertainment provided by flamenco guitarist, Maria Zemantauski, who is also the college’s Cultural Affairs Coordinator.

Zemantauski has been playing since she was 12, and has released four albums. She has performed in Italy, Spain, and across the United States.

Her music can be found at mariazamantauski.com, and will be playing with the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on May 4. She will also play at HVCC again in April.
