Stephen Sondheim Coming to Campus

Eight-time Tony Award recipient Stephen Sondheim will be visiting Hudson Valley after a previous cancellation of the visit.

All students are eligible for one free ticket to the event, which will take place in the Maureen Stapleton Theater. Tickets will go on sale to the general public in February for $25 each.

The New York born Sondheim is known for his work on scores and lyrics for popular musicals, such as “West Side Story,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Company,” and “Follies,” all of which have earned him Tony Awards.

Sondheim was born in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Through his prep school years, he studied piano intensively and received tutoring for theater writing from Oscar Hammerstein II.

At age 25, he was hired to write the lyrics for Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story.” Subsequently, he received many other jobs and his career expanded to include many other musicals that are cherished by Broadway fans all over the world.
