Corey Hoyt, student, was arrested on campus by Public Safety on Thursday, Feb. 28 following a disturbing post on social media involving gun violence.

Hoyt was reported to Public Safety by a student after posting alarming threats on Snapchat stating that he was going to “kill an HVCC cop and steal his gun and then go to the library.”

“A lot of people are going to be killed,” Hoyt wrote.

Public Safety immediately responded by arresting Hoyt in the basement of the library.

Hoyt admitted to Public Safety about posting the threats on Snapchat and apologized, claiming that he was stressed and killing would solve his problems.

No weapons were found on his person. No students were considered at risk.

Hoyt is currently suspended from classes and prohibited from being on campus, though it is unclear if he will return to campus in the future.

According to Troy Police, Hoyt is currently being charged with terrorism and second-degree aggravated harassment.

Hoyt will not comment on the situation as the charges are still pending.

His family did return a request for comment.
“Corey is an excellent young man with an intellectual disability who has gone far beyond all expectations in pursuing his dream of obtaining a college degree at Hudson Valley Community College,” they said. “Corey would never harm anyone and in fact is well known for his generosity and determination by his many friends and all his family who strongly support him.”

President Ramsammy released a statement to the college campus to ensure the safety of both students and faculty.

“The college has zero tolerance for such threats, and we must take every precaution and reasonable measure to protect our community,” Ramsammy said.
