Student housing on track for fall semester

For the Fall 2017 semester, the college will have the opportunity to rent housing space at the new student housing building.

The building, located at 100 Morrison Ave. is a three-minute walk from the main campus. Earlier in 2016, Hudson Valley sold the land where the Hy Rosenblum Administration Building once stood to the United Group of Companies, a privately owned business that specializes in the development, financing and management of real estate.

Michael DiGiacomo, the regional manager of student housing, spoke out about the current student housing plans.

Although the houses are not specifically co-ed, there are no restrictions by floor and wing for students. “An individual two or four-bedroom suite will not be co-ed,” said DiGiacomo via email.

In regards to roommates, there is a matching program that will be available for students to find a compatible roommate.

“We have an extensive roommate matching process we utilize to identify common ground between students so that everyone in a suite is able to live comfortably,” said DiGiacomo.

“We also try our best to accommodate specific roommate requests when multiple students wish to live together. One of the nice features about this project is that every student has their own bedroom, so they are able to balance their desires for privacy and socialization.”

The project, which is on schedule to be completed for the Fall 2017 semester, is on schedule for its completion.

“The project is on schedule and continues to move forward each day. It’s been great to see the building start to take shape and rise from the ground,” said DiGiacomo.

With the student housing coming soon to Hudson Valley, DiGiacomo feels it will have only positive impacts on student life. They are also working to make the environment exciting for students.

“We will have a lounge area with iPads available for use, a business center for group and private study sessions, multiple gathering places for students to socialize, and a large fitness center complete with a yoga room,” said DiGiacomo.

As well as these additions, the housing will also include high speed internet, off-street parking and 24 hour emergency maintenance for students. Each suite fully-furnished, so students won’t have to worry about finding furniture, and the housing’s development team has worked to ensure the design and housing will impact students in a positive way.

Additionally, the college is looking for ways to accommodate those with medical needs in the housing.

“We always make accommodations as needed based on the needs of our residents at any of our communities,”said DiGiacomo.

DiGiacomo continued, “At this time we are not only collecting information on students interested in living with us, but we are also actively accepting applications for those students that want to ensure they can live the ‘Suite Life’ with us next fall.”
