Student Senate Fills Vacant Positions, Votes in Senators
Eugene Corcione was unanimously voted into the position of Student Senate Vice President on Nov. 22. The Student Senate also accepted two new freshman senators and elected a new Treasurer.
Matthew Campbell, the Senior Senator, was nominated to take Corcione’s former position as Treasurer. Three Senators abstained from the vote, but the rest unanimously elected Campbell to the position of Student Senate Treasurer.
Nathalie McNair and Gahl Amitay were unanimously elected as Freshmen Senators.
Corcione ran for the Vice President position because he had experience in both marketing and advertising and, additionally, his treasurer position gave him a unique understanding of the Senate’s budget.
Campbell mentioned his interest in the Treasurer position before it was open and was nominated for the position the day of the vote.
Campbell mentioned his Economics and Accounting grades, which were both in the B range, to demonstrate his know how. Campbell gained teamwork and leadership experience as his high school wrestling team’s captain, and was also a senior player on the Hudson Valley Vikings soccer team this semester.
The two new Senators add a broader spectrum of diversity to the Student Senate. McNair came from a rural, homeschooled setting and said that she “wants to learn as much as possible” and is happy to be part of the Senate. Amitay entered Hudson Valley as part of the Shaker High School Early Enrollment Program.
Ann Carrozza, FSA Executive Director, attended the meeting to make a presentation during it. Carrozza said, “Alex [Duerr, Student Senate President] did an excellent job keeping the meeting together. There was a lot on the agenda and it all went very smoothly.”
The Student Senate is better equipped to keep up its work through the end of the semester with its vacant positions filled.
