While the rest of the student body was relaxing over break, our student-athletes were continuing their dedication.

When we had last seen men’s basketball, they had taken four game losses with nine wins: since then, they’ve only lost two more games.

Basketball player and individual studies student, Brandon McKenly, credits the team’s “togetherness.”

“I think we all have a great connection that keeps us in check, even when we’re not on the courts, we’re still having a great time,” McKenly said. “We all love basketball too, so when we were on break, we were never on break [and] we were still ballin’, staying strong for the game,” he continued. “I don’t think it was a big transition back to school because we never transitioned out.”

Unfortunately, women’s basketball wasn’t faring so well: they’re currently at 11-8, with half of their losses taking place this month.

Women’s basketball player Emily Erickson couldn’t explain what caused the minor fall-out.

“I don’t think there’s any one reason why we’ve lost the past few games,” Erickson said. “I really believe we just need to come together and focus,” she continued. “We love having fans at our games too, and the lack of students in the stands isn’t exactly encouraging.”

Between college attendance dropping 15% from the previous semester to the current one, especially with the semester just beginning, the stands are the emptiest they’ve ever been.

Meanwhile, our bowling teams are gracefully destroying their opponents with a flick of their wrists.

One of the biggest highlights from the past few weeks of the bowling season was the Mohawk Valley Invitational, where our men’s bowling team won, taking the title with a score of 5,846.

Women’s bowling champion and accounting major, Jordan Thomas, won the highest individual score for the tournament.

All in all, it’ll be exciting to see more students coming to games as the semester continues and as our students get a greater grasp on how forgiving their schedule is.
