Vikings stay competitive all weekend

Hudson Valley Community College participated in three important sporting events this weekend.

Men’s bowling had another successful weekend as they took 3rd at the Suffolk Bowling Tournament. They finished with an impressive final score of 5,992.

It was their best result since the Westchester Classic after coming in 7th and 5th at the Boulevard Classic and Schenectady Invitational respectively.

They will look to keep improving at the Hudson Valley Invitational at nearby Hilltop Bowl.

Men’s Basketball also had a successful weekend defeating North County Community College by a score of 107-84. Keeping their five-game win streak alive.

Hudson Valley Community College committed 21 turnovers as opposed to North County’s 12 but the Vikings still managed to pull out the win.

Caleb Canty, Guard, led both teams in points scoring a game-high of 29 points. He shot 11/16 on the day. Forward O’nandi Brooks also put up an impressive point total with 26 points. Brooks also added on an additional six steals.

Brandon Holmes added 14 points and four assists off the bench.

Hudson Valley Community College will look to continue the streak against Columbia-Greene on Wednesday.

As for Women’s Basketball, they lost to North County by a score of 92-80. Ending their 13 game win streak.

Hudson Valley Community College had four players reach double-digit point totals. Guard Caitlin Estes led the Vikings in points amassing 27 points on 11/19 shooting. Estes also added four assists and rebounds.

The Vikings other double-digit scorers were Hannah Krieger, Taylor Engster and Madison Grabner.

With the win over the Vikings, North County continued their 13 game win streak and had one of their highest scoring games of the season. Kayla Carder had a game-high of 38 points for north county.

The Vikings will face North County in their next contest on Monday the 18 where they will look to get back on track.

After an overall eventful weekend, fans look forward to the teams’ future success as the NJCAA playoffs quickly approach.
