Due to COVID-19 many of Hudson Valley’s art exhibits or programs have been moved online leading many to find new solutions to present work. One of these solutions was the “Home Alone Fine Arts and Digital Media Faculty Exhibit” which is an exhibition that presents the work of many faculty members of Hudson Valley Community College. Recently, part 1 of this exhibit closed. Part 2 of this exhibit is open through December 18, and called “Home Alone 2: Fine Arts and Digital Media Alumni Exhibition.”

Part 2 of the exhibit opened with an introduction on the pandemic and the overall show from Department Chairman, Scott M. Hathaway. Hathaway stated “arguably, this exhibition might even be better than the original. It features a new, easy to navigate online format and artist statements and biographies. Of course, the real “must-see” attraction is the show’s stars—our Fine Arts and Digital Media alumni. We are so proud of our graduates and all they have accomplished, including their advanced degrees and successes as artists themselves, and we are grateful for their generosity in sharing their work.”

The director of the show, Tara Fracolossi also had a statement about the exhibit saying “The work presented in Home Alone 2 bravely wrestles with the issues of the past months in both personal and universal ways. As our current students adjust to the demands, challenges, and even unexpected benefits of remote classes…”

When scrolling down past the introductions there is an arrangement of different mediums including photography, paintings, sculpture, and design. Every piece and artist in the show feels unique, showing the several artistic voices from Hudson Valley. The art is also accompanied by an artist’s bio and own personal statement about inspiration, process, and meaning. Some of the artists include Echo Goff, Joel Olzak, Marilee Sousie-Storm, Eliot Ambrosio, Ossie Jon-Nwakalo, Drea LaRose, Hannah Hutchinson, Arnela Mahmutović, and more.

HVCC insinuates a third show at the end of his initial statement saying “on behalf of the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts, and Digital Media Department, thank you for your support of our students – past, present and future, the College’s Fine Arts and Digital Media programs, and the arts. We look forward to the sequel to the sequel, “Home Alone 3” in the spring. It should be another blockbuster.”

The exhibition can be accessed through the Teaching Gallery page on the HVCC website.
