Hudson Valley Athletics has been experiencing an unbelievable string of success in recent weeks revolving around the in-season sports teams.

Both the Bowling and Basketball teams have been competing at a high level, both winning matchups and showing strides of improvement in their skill.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams boast impressive records with men placing at 20-5 and the women placing at 19-4. Each team is the leader in their conference and have overall become high ranking teams when it comes to the postseason.

In the men’s matchup this week, they faced off against their conference rival, the Columbia Greene Twins, in Hudson, N.Y. After being down three at the end of the first half, the Vikings propelled themselves to an 81-75 win, extending their win streak to six games now. Sophomores Caleb Canty and O’Nandi Brooks fueled the Vikings victory as they have done all season long, pouring in 32 and 23 points respectively.

On the women’s team, their matchup against the Columbia Greene Twins was canceled, but in their previous game against U-Maine Augusta, they came out on top winning 89-60. Sophomores Taylor Engster and Hannah Kreiger led the way with 19 and 22 points respectively, with Engster also grabbing 12 rebounds. The win was a team effort overall as each member of the starting five scoring in double digits and multiple players grabbing over ten rebounds.

The teams’ last home game of the season is Monday the 18th, against North Country Community College.

For Hudson Valley Bowling, the men’s and women’s teams have been improving all season long, steadily placing higher in each tournament. In their most recent tournament on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Babylon, N.Y., the bowling team placed third at the Suffolk Bowling Tournament, receiving a score of 5,992 pins.

For each team, the NJCAA National Tournament fast approaches on Feb. 28 in Erie, N.Y.

Hudson Valley Athletics only seem to be getting better as the Spring Semester is coming into full swing. Sports such as Lacrosse, Softball, Baseball and Track and Field are all gearing up for the start of their season within the next month, hoping to come out of the gate with success.

Men’s and women’s Lacrosse begins in the first week of March, with the rest of the sports teams having their first games in the weeks after.

Don’t be shy to show your Viking Spirit and go out to support your school and fellow peers in all of their games.
