The Vikings women’s soccer team beat the Cayuga Community College Spartans 12-0 on Saturday. It was the final home game of the season and all second-year players were honored and given a bouquet at the beginning of the match.

HVCC came out strong scoring two goals in less than five minutes.

They dominated the whole match and maintained possession for a vast majority of the game, allowing minimal shots.

At halftime an audience member said, “I don’t really think we’re doing anything wrong right now. It seems that the other team can’t keep up with our speed and passing but I’d like to see some shots on our goalie. She’s probably getting bored back there.”

Another audience member said, “The Vikings are playing great but I’d like to see some more effort out of both teams. I understand Its a blowout but, I just like to see some fight.”

In the second half, Hudson Valley kept their lead while maintaining a clean sheet.

Head coach Jay Pokines commented about the team’s success in the game saying, “We executed passing. We had some great crosses into the middle and we were able to actually get some body parts into the middle, heads, feet and score some goals off of them which we’ve had difficulty doing, so that’s a positive thing.”

When speaking about improvement in the playoffs Pokines said, “We need to look for that second option when passing. We can find the first option it just needs to find the second option and which one is the better choice as were playing.”

Finally, he said regarding the team as a whole, “I really happy with the team and how we played today, we didn’t play down to the level of the other team and we kept our play high which we’ve been doing all year.”

The Vikings will be in the playoffs and would love to see the continued support from the fans.
