The Viking’s Women’s Volleyball team won against Ulster County Community College in straight sets during their annual Dig Pink Night to raise awareness and money for breast cancer.

Preceding the game, the team had a celebratory ceremony where they recognized the sophomores on the team, who would be graduating from Hudson Valley Community College’s two-year program.

The sophomores recognized, alongside their Team Captain Katrina Vrooman, were Madison DeMarco, Jacqueline McCormick, Laura Grippin, and Leureah Cummings.

Before the game, the sophomores lined up, and their teammates gave mini-speeches on the impact their graduating peers had on their personal lives.

They were then gifted pink roses in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

However, the graduating sophomores were not the only game attendees gifted pink roses.

The team honored the breast cancer survivors in the stands, running up the bleachers to present attendees with pink roses, a very thoughtful way to begin what would be their 6th victory in a 19 game season.

The three-set game was back and forth, with what felt like minimal gains for the duration of the entire match.

The game’s first point went to the Vikings, and didn’t gain more than a point advantage, until we hit 8-6.

For Ulster, the game remained at six points until the 13th point for Hudson Valley, where they broke their standstill to make the score 13-7.

From then on, it was a very even grapple for points between the two teams.

Hudson Valley won the first set 25-20.

Once again, the first point went to the Vikings and after a short, but well-fought set, Hudson Valley won 25-16.

The back-and-forth-battle continued for the remainder of the game, if only more accelerated.

After a series of small advantages, Hudson Valley took the third set 25-22.

The stands were packed for one of the last games of the Viking’s Women’s Volleyball season.
