The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is relocating to the Hedley Building.

The EOC is currently located on 145 Congress St but will move to 431 River St, the Hedley Building, in winter 2013 – 2014.

The Capital District EOC provides many programs and services, such as Building Trades, Culinary Arts, Welding, Medical Office Administration, GED Preparation Program, Nursing Assistant, English as a Second Language, and Cosmetology.

The EOC opened for the very first time back in 1966 on the corner of Washington and Front Street. The building then relocated to its current location, which used to be a Bumstead Chevrolet dealership.

“The new building will be designed to meet our needs to provide workforce training in the 21st century…this building will be designed for educational space and will give us the flexibility that we need,” said Katie Bradley, Coordinator for Institutional Advancement.

The new EOC location will enclose 50,000 square feet, including the second floor of the Hedley Building, and will occupy the entire annex portion of the building that sits on the south.

The EOC will have its very own front entrance, including an elevator so that only the EOC will be able to access the second floor.

One of the tenants in the Hedley building is Express Scripts, a pharmacy benefit service provider.

“Express Scripts have hired some of our students in the past, so we’re very excited to be in a location where we have the possibility of internships and job opportunities for our students,” said Bradley.

“The move to the new building will include the move of our current equipment, but we also have plans to upgrade our machinery and equipment, such as an electronic or digital cash register for our culinary cafeteria, possibly a robotic arm to use in our welding program, and solar lights to incorporate into our building trades program,” said Bradley.

The Capital District EOC serves eligible adult learners, delivers comprehensive community based academic and workforce programs, and provides support services leading to enhanced employment opportunities, access to further education, personal growth, and development.
