Fall Transfer Fair in Campus Center

This past Wednesday, HVCC held a Transfer Fair on the first floor of the Siek Campus Center., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A variety of colleges attended the event, including SUNY Plattsburgh, SUNY Albany, and Union College, among others.

The transfer fair was an opportunity for students to see what different four-year colleges have to offer. “It was nice to able to see colleges that had my major. There were plenty of places that I didn’t even consider attending until now,” said Troy Viscusi, an HVCC student.

Students were able to ask college representatives specific questions about potential transfer schools. “I was able to find out more about the little things, like dorm rooms and the size of the campus,” said Viscusi.

“There is a large variety of students that we are able to reach when we attend these transfer fairs,” said Matt Dembinsky, the Assistant Director of Admissions for Mount Saint Mary College.

At the transfer fair each semester, colleges are able to display their selection of majors, which some students may not have known were offered. This allows representatives to encourage students to transfer to their colleges upon leaving Hudson Valley. “We give our speech and then the students get to decide. It’s a simple process that goes a long way. It can make or break their choice,” said Karie Lindenman, the Assistant Director of Transfer Admission at Sage.

“One of my concerns is that my credits won’t transfer over correctly,” said Mike Fernet, a student. This issue concerned a few other students, as well. Sometimes students are ready to transfer to another school and then their academic advisor contacts them, saying they cannot transfer all their credits.

“When it comes to transferring credits, you want to make sure that they will transfer correctly ahead of time so that there are no surprises,” said Lindenman.
