Men’s Soccer Losing Streak Continues

The Hudson Valley Men’s Soccer team opened their season with a 1-1 record and ranked #11 in the NSCAA Polls; since then they have lost six straight.

“It’s been tough, no way around it, we are just waiting for the team to click,” said Vikings Goalie Rich Acheson.

The Vikings hosted #9 ranked SUNY Adirondack last Wednesday and lost 4-2. Head Coach Travis Cooke said, “We are in every game here, we just have to keep pushing.”

Scott Joyal and Miguel Arauz would score for the Vikings, but it wouldn’t be enough for the win.

They looked for a bounce back victory on Saturday but would fall 2-1 in OT against Broome.

Acheson said, “We are a much better team than our record would show.”

Vikings Goalie Rich Acheson would record 11 in goal saves in the loss to Broome including a couple of impressive saves off of corner kick headers. Will McMahon scored the lone goal for Hudson Valley.

“We have to improve when we train, and we’ll move forward from there,” said Cooke.

“We’ve got a lot of new guys on the team this year and it takes time to build chemistry, but we’re confident that it’ll happen,” said Acheson.

The Vikings opponents haven’t been so bad either, they opened up their season against the reigning National Champions in Herkimer and the rest of their opponents combined record is 21-9.

“Yeah we’ve played some talented teams but a lot of our games could have gone either way, we could easily have a .500 record right now, but we haven’t been very lucky,” Acheson said.

The Vikings have some time to make up some ground, they have eight games remaining on the season and half of them are home.

Hudson Valley looks to right the ship in the second half of the season, “We believe that we are a good team and we aren’t going to give up, and we aren’t going to let up in practice,” Acheson said.

Hudson Valley hosts Clinton on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
