Hudsonian Introduces Official Podcast: The Hud

Hudson Valley Community College’s News Organization, The Hudsonian, launches their new exclusive podcast, called The Hud. The new platform will be providing a new and greater in-depth perspective to campus news stories.
Nolan Cleary, The Hudsonian’s Managing Editor and host of The Hud, explains that in some ways, writing news articles can be more limiting than a podcast. “When you write an article, you have five hundred words to do an event justice. When you do a podcast, you can fit so much more material in a 20-minute episode than you can that same article.”
By introducing a new virtual platform, The Hudsonian hopes to reach a greater audience and to engage students in new ways.
“In this pandemic, more people are engaging with technology more than they usually would.” claims Cleary. “There’s a greater audience for more virtual formats, and it’s important to address the demand.”
The Hudsonian has long been exploring how to share news with the campus outside of the traditional newspaper format.
In the past, The Hudsonian has also launched a YouTube channel, discoverable online as HudsonianHVCC and titled as the Hudsonian News Network– and prior to the Siek Campus remodel, The Hudsonian also had a recording studio, and were even considering purchasing an FM radio station (and were ultimately outbid, ending that endeavor).
The Hud will be exploring a weekly news event more in depth, interviewing relevant sources and detailing outside opinions. Nolan Cleary will be hosting the episodes.
The goal of The Hud is to make The Hudsonian more accessible to everyone, making more avenues for people to join and learn about The Hudsonian.
Cleary emphasizes that the podcast is open to any contributions from Hudsonian members. “I’ll be hosting the podcast, but any Hudsonian member can contribute however they’d like. If someone wants to host or add on, the more the merrier.”
The Hud is scheduling their weekly episode upload for Sundays at 6 am. Their premiere episode introduces guest Professor Rachel Bornn, Hudson Valley Journalism Professor and advisor for The Hudsonian. Cleary and Bornn will be discussing changes to The Hudsonian, and how the newspaper is adapting around the pandemic.
