Let’s take a trip!

I came home early,

Afternoon was so crisp, yet still young.

The house was sure, silent and sturdy,

But the floor from above had already sung.

Before I came in, I heard thuds and whispers,

I asked, “Hey who’s there?” She yelled, “Just the plumber.”

“Alright… I’m going to go pick up Josh,”

My one prized possession.

He was still at school learning,

In after school sessions.

He’s as strong as a mule, but as little as a mouse,

My only yearning are northern curves on the edge of his mouth

I hopped in the car,

Seats made of ice not leather,

I drove past the piles of rice on the street,

Typical New York weather.

My breath made of vapor, my ears made of cold glass,

I hope Josh waited inside, and stayed in the warm class.

I called him to come here,

He jumped in with a warm, snow-white smile,

He asked if I knew,

I’ve known for a while.

We drove down the icy streets,

And drove til we met the Miami heat.

We drove away – leaving beloved sweet,

Because that’s what you get… when you cheat.
