Life’s a Stage: Alejandro Torres

Performer Alejandro Torres needs no introduction.

He is a charismatic, smiling figure from Rochester, who was destined to be on a stage somewhere. He has seen some success in an array of performance styles, including film, stage, and magic.

“I always loved the magic shows at parties [as a kid]. I was always the one to volunteer,” said Torres.

Magic, which is a big part of Torres life, has been an interest of his for years.

“I became serious about it in high school. I saw David Blaine on [television] and it was amazing how he performed,” said Torres.

Torres has been featured at different performances around the Capital District. He won first prize at the Albany Steamer Talent show for his magic.

“I was also given an outstanding performance award,” he said.

Torres just made final arrangements to showcase his magic act at HVCC’s Spring Fest.

The road for Torres’s walk has not been smooth. At age seven, Torres was diagnosed with diabetes.

Through this, Torres never stopped doing what he loves to do, which is performing.

Along with magic, Torres has involved himself in film and theater, where he has been seen in a production of “Cabaret,” among other things.

Through his high school years, he played multiple roles in theater.

Torres offered advice to anyone who is interested in performing arts.

“Connections are important. Get involved with the theater club. Don’t be afraid to audition for everything,” said Torres.

Further, Torres suggested developing one’s own personal style of performance.

“Watch [performers] you like, but don’t copy them. Do your own thing,” Torres said.

He said, “Life is short. If you have a dream, follow it. Don’t worry about what other people think.”
