Mental Health and Wellness Fair

The Center for Counseling and Transfer hosted a Mental Health Resources Fair on Apr. 18.

The fair was held with the help of Equinox to inform students about ways to relieve their stress, and to cope with, or better understand, mental disorders.

Equinox is a not for profit community organization that offers outreach projects, including projects relating to chemical dependency, domestic violence, and homelessness, and annual holiday dinners for those in need.

A service to help domestic violence victims is offered by Equinox.

Half of incidents of domestic violence go unreported, 51 percent of college males admit to perpetrating sexual assault during college, and an estimated five percent of college women experience a completed or attempted rape every year.

Vitality Physicians Group Practice offered therapy for mental health patients, using their new Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation machine.

The machine looks like a dental chair with a powerful and accurate magnet hanging above it, set to target a specific portion of a person’s brain in order to stimulate certain chemicals to be released or better absorbed.

The treatment has been tested to help depression patients and those suffering with other disorders.

Fidelis Care shared information about their coverage plans for singles, families and children, and Crestwood Pharmacy showcased their services.

Gambling and Tobacco Addiction Cessation groups set up table to offer resources to students.

Stress relief was a main feature of the fair, with the campus’s labyrinth walk and a few games taking place.
