A motivational speaker gave a presentation to students in the Campus Center on Thursday Jan. 21.

Stan Pearson has given presentations to over 100,000 people in different parts of the world. The purpose of his presentations is to help people feel good about their selves. This was done in creative ways through music, comedy and stories.

Pearson said, “The main reason for this presentation is to show people tricks to make life easier.”

The presentation was not uptight and the audience was encouraged to be relaxed while Pearson spoke. He started the presentation by explaining how people feel throughout their years in school and basically how people never change.

To relax the audience, Pearson had everyone do their best laugh and best “awe” out loud.

He talked about the five points, a guide on how to be the best in any aspect of life. This could be something like school or work, but could also include things such as fame.

The first step is to be creative. When referring to this step, Pearson explained how people can choose their own success. The main thing learned from this step is that creativity and participation in different things will help people be more successful.

The next step was to be your own best friend. This means that people should get to know themselves first before letting people tell them what they are or are not. Some people are convinced of certain decisions they make just by the influence of other people.

Being present was the third step out the five step plan. By talking about his experiences as a babysitter, Pearson showed the audience that if one has a healthy and happy environment growing up, they will be happier throughout their life.

“We have been shaped to celebrate failures and not successes, but we should all be doing the opposite,” says Pearson. He explained to the audience that one does not have to be perfect to be a good person.

The fourth step was to be consistent. This essentially means that people have to make changes and move forward if they are not happy with their current situations.

The final step was to be resilient. By definition resiliency is the ability to bounce back into shape. In terms of competition with others, the skill of resiliency makes a difference between the successes of both.

At the end of the presentation, Stan Pearson wanted to know what people learned from his presentation.

“I learned to never give up on your dreams or hopes. Be creative. Stay positive on whatever you do. If you feel negative turn to positive motivation and be your own best friend,” said Dywana Cunningham, freshman Individual Studies.
