Finally, the WWE is coming back…to Albany.

But this time, Friday Night Smackdown comes to the Times Union Center on March 5 during the road to Wrestle Mania 29, which is on April 7 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The WWE recently returned to the Capital Region last September when Monday Night Raw came to the Times Union Center.

“I had a great time back in September when the Hardcore Legend, Mick Foley confronted CM Punk and when the Big Show made his return,” Doug Colletti, senior Broadcast Communications.

Superstars such as Randy Orton, Ryback, Sheamas Alberto Del Rio and the Big Show are expected to headline the list of the biggest names in the business making an appearance in Albany.

“I expect the WWE to put on a great show as they always do,” said Mike Davis, senior Broadcast Communications. “It’s always a thrill to see superstars like the Big Show and Randy Orton. It should be a great time.”

“I hope to see a great show and I would really love to see Brock Lesnar finally come back to Smackdown,” said Colletti.

Colletti is a long time wrestling fan and has been to nearly every WWE event that has come to Albany since 1998.

“My favorite match (in Albany) was when Kurt Angle and Triple H took on Undertaker and Kane in a Tag Team Match,” Colletti said.

“My favorite moment was when John Cena joined DX for the night, that only happened one time and it was here,” Davis said.

Other moments that the WWE has produced in Albany was when John Cena lost his United States Championship to Orlando Jordan on Smackdown in 2005, also, right before Wrestle Mania.

In March of 1999 Stone Cold Steve Austin drove a beer truck into then known as Knickerbocker Arena, and sprayed the Rock, Shane and Vince McMahon with a Coors Light beer truck hose. That was just six days before Wrestle Mania 15.

If these examples are any indication, then this visit to Albany should be no different.

Tickets for the event are still available at the Times Union Center box office, wwe.com and stubhub.com.
