Pats match Steelers with six titles

2019 Super Bowl was a seemingly long and tense game that saw the New England Patriots overcome the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 13-3. It is the lowest scoring super bowl of all time.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady won his sixth Super Bowl placing him in sole possession of the most ever by a single player This broke his tie with pass rusher Charles Haley.

The win also secured the New England Patriots title of the most Super Bowls won by a single franchise, tying the Pittsburgh Steelers with six.

The first half of the Super Bowl was slow. The score at halftime was 3-0 Patriots due to strong defensive play from both teams.

At halftime, Brady was 15/25 passing with one interception. Brady threw an interception on his first pass attempt of the game marking the first time he has ever done so in a postseason game.

Patriots wide receiver, Julian Edelman, had 7 receptions for 93 yards by halftime.

Opposing quarterback and former number one overall draft selection, Jared Goff, went 5/12 with 52 passing yards and Rams running back Todd Gurley had only 3 carries for 10 yards at halftime.

The second half picked up slightly as rookie running back, Sony Michel, scored the first and only touchdown of the game on a goal line rush following two big-time catches from Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

The Rams final chance came to an end in the 4th quarter when pro bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore intercepted Jared Goff and essentially sealed the game for New England.

“What is this Super Bowl?” Charles, a criminal justice major at Hudson Valley Community College said. “I feel like I’m losing brain cells watching this.”

Which was surely a popular statement considering how low scoring and defensive the game was.

“[Brady’s] a great player and he’s been a great player for the New England Patriots. Certainly his record is unmatched, I’m glad he’s my quarterback,” Bill Belichick, the Patriots coach, said after the game, according to ESPN.com

Belichick made history himself tying the record for most NFL titles by a head coach.

“Everybody counted us out from the beginning of the season, midseason, were still here,” Belichick said, according to theinquirer.com.

Rams players also had plenty of things to say after their disappointing loss.

via USA Today: “The way you carry yourself … is the only thing that’s going to matter,” Left tackle Andrew Whitworth said, according to usatoday.com. “That’s what people are going to remember about you,” he said. “For me, what means the most is guys seeing me hold my head up high, being confident in them and loving them.”

“I’m almost numb … They did a great job but it was mostly a result of me doing a poor job calling plays and not giving us a chance to win,” Rams head coach and offensive guru Sean McVay said, according to ESPN.com. “I don’t know how you ever get over this.”

The 2019 Super Bowl will be remembered as a tense game that saw both teams struggle. However, the Patriots have cemented their place in history as one of the most successful dynasties in sports history.
