Are you ready to crunch down on the truth about the pizza offered in the Hudson Valley Community College’s cafeteria?

You can argue that students put pizza in high demand at any college cafeteria. With the amount students eat pizza, it’s no wonder we place a high standard on the price, taste, size, freshness, and availability of this highly sought after food.

Contrary to popular opinion, in order to truly have the full pizza eating experience we must eat each slice of pizza “backwards.” Start with the crust and end with the cheesy pyramid at the top.

Why? When we start a meal with a clean palate, we’re able to taste as many flavors as our taste buds humanly allow. This means that if a slice of pizza was eaten normally by the time we’d reach the crust, it wouldn’t be nearly as tasty as the saucy-cheesy goodness that came before hand.

Our taste buds are  temporarily overwhelmed when we eat pizza in the traditional fashion, which hinders us from tasting the more subtle flavors that could have been previously experienced.

Now that we know how to eat our pizza let’s get real about the pizza offered at the college. The pizza is prepared and provided by Prime.

I went to sample the pizza at noon, but there was not a single slice of pizza in sight. Every pizza-pie holder laid empty-simply basking under the heat lamps.

Once the pizza came out-it was delicious, but is it worth the possible wait, and the price of $1.99(for cheese)?

The size of the cheese slice itself ranged from average to slightly above average. Overall, it was on the thinner side, basically not that thick.

The crust was warm and soft on the inside, with just a light crunch on the outside. I’d like to think that deciding whether pizza is too salty, or not salty enough is something we can all do. The slice of cheese pizza wasn’t overbearingly salty, but it would leave most students looking for the nearest water fountain.

You won’t be able to help but enjoy the first bite. It a wonderful blend of soft dough, sauce and cheesy goodness. The cheese is capable of stretching over 3 inches long. The pizza itself was very oily. I did not find that the excessive oil affected the taste negatively. I was disappointed to find there wasn’t much sauce between the massive amount of cheese and the thin crispy underbelly of the pizza.

Too much of a anything can be bad thing and I think that’s’ just the case here. The sauce is necessary to achieve that wonderfully gushy dough that absorbs the different oils, sauces, and spice.

I formed a love hate relationship with this single slice of cheese pizza. It was very good, however it came very close to being too strong in taste.
