Siena transfer agreement guarentees admission for qualified Vikings
Siena College President Kevin Mullen and Hudson Valley President Drew Matonak met on May 5 to promote a transfer admissions guarantee between the two institutions, which will allow Hudson Valley students to transfer to Siena if they meet qualifications.
Campus Center and admissions representatives had an information table from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m, promoting TAG and handing out “Finals Week Survival Kits.” Siena’s mascot “Bernie” joined with the Hudson Valley Viking early in the morning to promote the TAG program as well.
Qualified Hudson Valley students are guaranteed a place at Siena College with TAG. TAG students that meet program requirements and review course options will be outlined by the admissions staff on May 12.
More than half of Siena transfer students are former Vikings. Each year, about 85 Hudson Valley graduates continue their education at Siena College.
Transfer application deadlines for the spring semester are Jan. 4, Apr. 1 for the summer semester and Aug. 15 for the fall semester. Full-time students are required to send a $100 deposit and part-time students pay a $50 deposit while decisions are made in between a 2-3 week period.
Transfer students from Hudson Valley to Siena are required to have three years of college preparatory mathematics in order to be enrolled in the 77-year old private liberal arts college. Pre-calculus is required for transfer students entering the School of Science.
Siena college has 27 majors, 37 minors and 10 certificate programs available for transfer students.
Hudson Valley has made formal articulation agreements with 30 private institutions spanning from Siena to Eastern Kentucky University. The campus also holds formal articulation agreements with 14 SUNY institutions, three online schools and one CUNY institution, the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
The acceptance rate for students is 58 percent and with the Loudonville-based college’s tuition being $32,293, 86 percent of students receive financial aid.
With the transfer agreement, two scholarships are available to transfer students who are eligible for financial aid. The Franciscan Transfer Scholarship applies provides $7,000 for students with a cumulative GPA ranging from 3.1 and 4.0. The Siena College Phi Theta Scholarship provides $14,000 for students who are a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
