The Men’s basketball team snapped a five game losing streak and improved their record to 10-9 with a 75-65 win against the Broome Hornets. #0 Elijah Newsome, from Cohoes, topped all Viking scorers with 16 points. #22 Brendan Archer, from Schoharie, added 15 and #11 Tyler Dahlin, from Millbrook, contributed 12 points off the bench in a much needed win. The Vikings led the game most of the way as they look to right the ship in the middle of their season.

The Vikings started the season red hot going 8-1 and looked as if they would contend for a Region III NJCAA championship. Since the start of the new year, the team has gone 1-7 and looked like a much different team.

“In past games we’ve had stretches where our opponents would make runs and we couldn’t overcome it,” said head coach Mike Long. “Today we played better longer and that was the difference.”

“We did a better job at spreading the ball around,” said Long. Nine out of the twelve players that are on the team made the stat sheet and scored at least a basket.

Defense also played better today “We worked pretty hard today and tried to get the job done defensively and get on the boards,” said sophomore Elijah Newsome. “We got the job done and got the win.”

The Vikings are in a critical point in their schedule as they make a push towards the regional tournament. There next game is Wednesday night when they host the Adirondack Community College Timberwolves at 7 p.m.
